ABOUT SEM 

Strategic Equity Management was founded in 1992 by Rick Gage, an engineer experienced in the use of statistical design and optimization.  Today the team at Strategic Equity is comprised of both engineering and finance professionals who combine their knowledge and experience to navigate the uncertainties of the stock market.  Our approach to the financial markets utilizes technical analysis to develop computer-driven investment models.  These proprietary models, developed through extensive back-testing, have guided Strategic Equity’s investment approach since its formation.

Meet The Team

President & Chief Investment Officer

Rick earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering while attending South Dakota School of Mines & Technology on an academic scholarship.  He obtained his Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.  Mr. Gage has worked in the field of statistical design and optimization since 1979--first in the metal process and microelectronics industries and since 1992 as the founder of Strategic Equity Management, Inc.

Sr. Portfolio Manager and Manager of Institutional Services

Jeff received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration (Finance & Accounting emphasis) from the University of Northern Colorado, where he was a member of the Financial Management Association National Honor Society.  He has worked in the field of accounting and finance since 1992.  Prior to joining SEM, Mr. Hybiak served as a Fund Manager/Analyst for the UNC Alumni Foundation Fund, a balanced portfolio consisting of equity, fixed income, and cash securities.  He joined Strategic Equity Management, Inc. in October 1998.  He is currently a 2015 Level II Candidate in the CFA Program having passed the Level I exam in June 2014.

Manager of Investment Research

Stephen received BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, VA, in 1977, 1978, and 1985, respectively.  From 1981 to 1997 he performed both research and design work in the power electronics field.  In 1995 Dr. Goad began research in market technical analysis and trading system development and in January 1998 joined Strategic Equity Management, Inc.

Relationship Managers & New Business Development

Tim & Jim have over 28 years combined sales & customer service experience.  Based out of Denver, Tim & Jim service all of SEM's Business Partner Relationships.  Prior to joining Strategic Equity in 2006, Tim & Jim worked in a similar capacity for Datalynx, a division of Fiserv.  Their experience on the custody & trust side of the business has made them an invaluable addition to the SEM team and all of our Business Partners.

Support Team Manager

Shannon received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Arizona. Prior to joining the SEM team in 2002, Ms. Chandler developed asset allocation strategies as an Investment Specialist for Charles Schwab.

Trading Assistant / Business Partner Support Specialist

Brandi has over 17 years of back office & customer service experience, most of those focusing on accounting operations.  She has been with the SEM team since 2001 & earned her Associates Degree in Business Management in 2014.

Business Partner Support Specialist

Laynie has been in the financial industry for over 20 years. Her experience in banking, financial advisory, mortgage-backed bond & commodity trading gives Laynie a versatile view of the financial industry. She has been with the SEM team since May 2004.

Business Partner Support Specialist

Kim has extensive background in back office operations, including many years in the financial services industry.  She has been with the SEM team since July 2010.
